About

A podcast hosted by two DJs talking about music, movies, cultures, or miscellaneous topics of our interest.

Maybe the occasional guest speaker, caller, or interviewee…?

Just a space for good vibes and good times.

The Hosts

Meet Alejandro Jackson, an Afro-Cuban American from Miami, Florida and a junior at Brown University. Being born and raised in Miami has definitively shaped his perspectives and lack of tolerance to the cold. You can usually find him fueling his coffee addiction, rocketing around Brown’s campus via skateboard, or geeking out over music, photography, and all things nerd culture.
Meet Dhruv Anand, a junior at Brown University born and raised near the Atlanta area. His views on life are largely influenced by his obsession with all facets of the world around him and his Indian cultural background. You can find him around campus watching movies with his friends in Smitty B, playing the licc, or being disappointed by the Indian food selection on campus.

The History

Upon their acceptance to Brown, Dhruv and Alejandro both pondered the idea of being a part of college radio. That innocent seedling of an idea was then nurtured by a visit to Brown University’s Fall 2021 Activities Fair.

Dhruv: “…where Brown had this big activities fair—you know, stereotypical—like colleges set up booths; like all the clubs set up their booths; man the booths; do their own thing; promote their stuff; and we both went to this fair together and we walked by the Brown Student Radio booth and we’re like, huh? I always sort of always thought that, you know, doing college radio would be fun.”

Alejandro: “Mm-hmm yeah. Yeah my family talked a lot about how I should do radio because of my voice so…”

Dhruv: ”I was like oh, what if– what if I like, was a DJ or something on like the school radio? But then that like evolved into like we should both do radio and then that evolved into like we should have a show together.”

Episode 19: A Peer Inside the Pocket

That was the birth of The Outta Pocket Podcast.

The Outta Pocket Podcast, where we pull conversation topics out of our pocket…and occasionally go outta pocket, is a show that covers a variety of topics. Some episodes are more educational and professional, others are more casual and contain more adult language and jokes, and others are fortunate enough to host guests that provide a fresh perspective on the topic of the week.

The name was born from Alejandro saying something along the lines of “…man, I really suck at pulling name ideas out of my pocket. Oh… The Outta Pocket Podcast!” It felt very on brand. A period of training and a demo show, Episode 0: The Outta Pocket Podcast Demo Show (which you should totally check out…), later, they began regularly recording late at night in a dining hall at Brown University, hoping to not get kicked out by late-night cleaning crews. Initially, episodes aired purely on 101.1 FM WBRU-LP, WFOO-LP, WVVX-LP Providence through Brown Student Radio. In a couple months, The Outta Pocket Podcast found itself a home website. Soon after, the podcast started popping up on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Since then, all episodes have been recorded in the Rockefeller’s AV Recording Studio and carefully planned out through cohesive episode outlines with the ultimate goal being to cover interesting topics in an entertaining fashion. Over the course of the first year and a half, Dhruv and Alejandro got a better sense of the direction The Outta Pocket Podcast should grow and evolve in, and because of that, they felt that it was in the best interest of our podcast to continue on our own, independent of Brown Student Radio.

They hope to grow the show bigger and better than ever and hope to have you along for the ride!
